About Us
Rey Valley International School was founded on October 5, 2012, under the aegis of the Sabitri Pradhan Educational Charitable Trust (SPECT). We are a co-educational, English-medium school and follow the CISCE curriculum, at 6 Mile, Tadong, about 10 kilometres from Gangtok. We provide a nurturing space for holistic development and intellectual curiosity.
Who We Are Today
At Rey Valley International School (RVIS), we are committed to fostering a learning environment that encourages children to discover their unique ways of learning. We aim to make learning an exciting journey, characterised by creativity, imagination, and hands-on experiences. Each child is recognised as an individual and is treated with dignity and respect. This allows students to flourish at their own pace, in an environment that supports their intellectual, emotional, and social growth.
Our Core Principles
Welcome to the heart of our school. Discover the values and unique selling points that define our educational experience and commitment to every student's growth and well-being.
Dedicated and Continuously Developing Faculty
At the heart of RVIS lies a team of educators who teach with insight and lead by example. Over 90% of our faculty hold graduate degrees, and 30% carry advanced teaching certifications. However, their real strength lies in their commitment to constant learning.
Teachers participate in bi-monthly CPD sessions—both on-campus and off-site—through collaborations such as with NEXT Education, focusing on inclusive classrooms, digital fluency, and progressive methodologies. These sessions are not one-off events, but a culture of professional curiosity that fuels innovation in our classrooms.
What sets us further apart is our belief that every adult in the school is a co-learner. Literacy and communication workshops are extended to our ancillary team as well—because we believe children learn best in environments where everyone around them models growth, dignity, and care.
Whether it's helping a Grade 3 learner strengthen decision-making skills or guiding a UKG student through early phonics and expressive language, our faculty offers learning experiences that are warm, consistent, and responsive.
Child-Centered and Inclusive Learning Philosophy
Our classrooms are more than spaces—they are ecosystems where children feel safe, valued, and truly understood. RVIS is proudly rooted in Montessori, PlayWay, and project-based approaches that focus on fostering independent thinking, adaptability, and emotional resilience.
With a 10:1 student-teacher ratio in primary and 8:1 in pre-primary, we ensure that every learner is seen and supported. Our teachers are trained to tailor instruction to the pace, strengths, and challenges of each child, allowing them to thrive naturally.
True to our inclusive ethos, we welcome learners of all abilities. In 2023, we formally enrolled multiple children with special needs and collaborated closely with families and professionals to craft personalized support plans—an initiative aligned with the NEP’s call for equity in education.
Our narrative-based report cards reflect this philosophy. Instead of only grades, parents receive detailed, actionable insights: one child may be encouraged to “take more initiative in peer discussions,” another to “strengthen emotional regulation during transitions,” and a third to “explore greater depth in creative writing.” Each report is a mirror of the child’s evolving journey, not just a summary of performance.

Smart Infrastructure and Holistic Enrichment
RVIS is equipped with state-of-the-art digital infrastructure, ensuring learning is interactive, accessible, and immersive. All classrooms feature Smart TVs powered by NEXT Education, bringing lessons alive with multimedia content and real-time collaboration. Beyond the classroom, our students explore and grow in three innovative labs:
The REYsonance Space: A space for building multilingual fluency in English, Nepali, Hindi, and French, through speaking, listening, and language games. The cREYative Space: A hands-on coding hub where children learn logic, problem-solving, and sequencing using platforms like Scratch Jr. The REYsearch Space: A Math and Science exploration zone, where young minds tinker, test, and build ideas through experiments and real-world projects.
But learning at RVIS goes beyond academics. Our weekly calendar includes dance, music, football, karate, and drama, all designed to help children express themselves.

Green, Safe, and Well-Nourished Campus
We believe that respect for nature, community, and self should begin early. Our school is the proud recipient of the State Green School Award 2024, and we walk the talk.
Through the Eco Terra Club, children lead projects on composting, recycling, zero-waste practices, and nature journaling. As part of the Green School Programme, environmental education is woven into subjects, school events, and even meal planning.
Safety is equally paramount. Our campus features CCTV surveillance, trained security personnel, and routine disaster preparedness drills under the guidance of our Disaster Management Committee.
At our Cafeteria, daily meals are cooked on-site in our kitchen and follow carefully designed menus that promote both health and cultural appreciation. We also host themed culinary days—such as Chinese, Mediterranean, Italian, and traditional Sikkimese menus—to help children develop a healthy and adventurous relationship with food.
Community Engagement and Student Voice
At RVIS, children are not just part of the school—they help shape it. Events like Etincelles (Annual Day), Reyonland (Funfête), and our vibrant Friday Assemblies are co-created with student teams. From anchoring and scriptwriting to managing backstage logistics, learners take ownership and pride in what they present.
Our three teams—Instinct (Yellow), Mystic (Blue), and Valor (Red)—channel healthy competition and team spirit through inter-house events like sports, elocution, poetry, and creative arts. Our Student Council and Star Student recognition system foster leadership, self-discipline, and public speaking.
Community is not limited to students. With three parent-teacher conferences (PTC) a year, active WhatsApp groups, the RVSMC (School Management Committee), and regular updates on social media, we ensure parents are partners in every step.
Our field trips—to post offices, local banks, farms, and cultural sites—are designed to help children connect classroom learning with the real world, and to foster respect for the diverse systems and people that make up society.

Celebrating Culture, Language, and Global Friendships
Cultural understanding isn’t an event at RVIS—it’s a way of life. From Traditional Day celebrations and Sanskritik Deosi Toli visits to regional storytelling and thematic assemblies, students are immersed in the beauty and diversity of heritage.
We teach English as the main language of instruction, but equally emphasize proficiency in Hindi, Nepali, and French, introduced in higher grades. Children engage in Elocution Contests, Drama, Role Play, Story Circles, and recitations that develop both fluency and cultural insight.
Our international collaboration with Waynflete School in Maine, USA, through a meaningful penpal program, gives RVIS students the rare opportunity to exchange ideas, stories, and curiosity with peers across the world—building friendships that transcend borders.
