What if my child isn't a self-directed learner?

The Multiple-Intelligence and Project based Learning approach is designed to stimulate intellectual curiosity, enthusiasm, responsibility and self-discipline. It is a student-centered methodology with a high degree of teacher facilitation and direction. Small classes and a very favorable 'teacher-student' ratio ensures that no one can escape the attention s/he needs.

Homework policy

Homework is given to students as per necessity and capability of the child; not more than 2 subjects per day, except on weekends for Primary level students.

What are the methods of assessment?

a. RVIS employs two broad types of assessment, which are consistent with the ICSE program. b. Summative Assessment which measures the students' achievement according to clear criteria of knowledge and skills. Such assessments will include tests and examinations. c. Formative Assessment encourages the students' individual development and sets attainable targets. We aim to instill confidence by incorporating effective study and preparation techniques.

How many students are there in the school?

The school strength is around 130 with a teacher student ratio of 1:10

Who will teach my child at RVIS?

Competent teachers who have requisite training and experience of teaching in the Indian systems of education. They regularly undergo in-service training (twice a month) provided by the Academic and Administrative Coordinators.

How are parents involved in the educational process?

The parents are informed regularly of the child's progress by electronic mail and through other channels of communication. There are formal Parent Teacher Conferences (PTC) and informal meetings. There is ample scope for additional individual consultation when the need arises. Parents have the opportunity for involvement through the Rey Valley Parent Teacher Organisation, RVPTO.

What are the dining provisions?

Rey Valley International School enrolls students from all over India. Our menu features local Indian and International cuisines prepared and served in a hygienic dining hall.

Can the child be given special food on medical grounds?

Yes, on the doctor’s advice and at an extra cost.

What medical facilities does the school provide?

There is provision for First Aid to be provided to the students in the infirmary and parents are informed of the incident. In case of a serious injury arrangements can be made for the rapid transfer of any student to Manipal Hospital (CRH) for medical assistance, if required.

What are the safety and security features of the campus?

One of our highest priorities is the safety and well-being of our students. a. The RVIS employees are carefully screened and trained. b. We have CCTV cameras in all the common areas. c. Fire and earthquake drills are done twice or thrice a year.

What about Covid-19 SOPs?

As directed by Sikkim Govt. the appropriate guidelines to ensure that COVID appropriate protocols are followed and children's safety is ensured. a. Consent forms are obtained from the parents who are willing to visit the school. b. All the classrooms, libraries, toilets, drinking water, etc. such places where physical movements of students and teachers take place, are thoroughly sanitised. c. Proper thermal screening is done on the school gate to make sure that if any student or school staff shows high temperature, they will not be allowed to enter the school premises. d. Students and staff are encouraged to sanitize or wash their hands as frequently as possible. e. Social distancing to be adhered to at all times. f. Single desk is provided to students of LKG to G5.

Are there Online classes?

Online Classes would be the next alternative if in-person classes cannot be conducted.

How will you prevent ragging etc. and maintain discipline?

Ragging is not permitted. Discipline is maintained in a firm but compassionate manner. This aims to help in building the right values and attitude.

What will the day boarders do after school?

The After-School Program (ASP) facility for boarders is carefully structured and supervised. Besides supervised study, there are rostered intramural activities. Students are provided with an afternoon snack before they go home.

At what time of the year will the school accept students?

Student intake is maximum in October. However, students may be admitted at any point during the academic year depending on the availability of seats. The school year usually commences in February.
